I was chatting with a close friend today about my commitment to make art every day this year, and how making it public encourages me not to let myself off the hook. He said he would forgive me if I missed a day, because you can't rush or force art. But I know from experience that it's a slippery slope: you miss a day, then two, and next thing you know it's been weeks, months, even years, and you're addicted to word games and Netflix.
I think that making some kind of art every day will be like an anchor that keeps the ship of creativity from drifting away out of sight. The stuff I post here may not be good. It may even be embarrassing sometimes. But maybe, like today, I try a new technique or paint combination.... And one thing often leads to another. As a bonus, today's little piece will remind me of my conversation with my friend.
One of my favourite art quotes: "The muse comes to the moving brush."
